Our intention for the “Native Arts: Expressing Relations of Bodies and Lands” colloquium is to build and strengthen relationships between Indigenous artists, create a virtual space on UCSB’s campus that centers Native art and artists, and showcase different Indigenous perspectives on artistic practice. The colloquium will foster a space for our speakers to learn from and inspire one another. The colloquium will deepen interdisciplinary conversations for attendees in and beyond our campus community about Indigenous art practices across form and genre, and their relationships to land, embodiment, collaboration, expression, activism, and power.

The colloquium will take place over the course of two days, beginning with a keynote titled "Giving/Taking Notice" by Stó:lō scholar Dylan Robinson on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 5:00PM.

On Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 10:00AM - 2:00PM, the colloquium will facilitate a panel presentation focused on artistic practice and performance, featuring multi-media artists including Cherokee/Muscogee artist and composer Elisa Harkins; Coastal Band of the Chumash Cultural Representative Mia Lopez; and, Osage body and Earth dancer brooke smiley.
